ARG-1 (Astronomisches Rechengerät 1) Celestial Computer, Fl. This was used by BOTH the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine throughout the later stages of the war. The ARG-1 is an extremely accurate Navigational instrument. Manufactured only by Carl Zeiss (blc), they were originally a Luftwaffe issued piece, but were eventually adopted by the Kriegsmarine for use on U-boats. They were used to obtain an intercept and azimuth in order to plot the results of a sextant observation – thus many volumes of sight reduction tables were made obsolete. Another use was to compute the initial great circle course and distance between any two positions in the world by solving the spherical geometry. Modern computers, it was very useful for night-time navigation or for diving of submarines. Made of brass, wood, and steel by Carl Zeiss, and dating between 1943 and 1945, this Celestial Computer is in VERY NICE used condition! It is 100% functional, however there are some marks, scratches, and paint loss from use and age. Features an illuminated glass screen along with an azimuth-type eyepiece & microscope with an adjustable reticle / crosshair (in which you can determine the degrees and navigational route). It comes complete in the original wood box, and is 100% complete with the original power cord! The spare bulbs are missing from the storage pocket, but replacements can easily be found. Also, some of the paper labelling inside the box has worn away. All markings and codes are legible, and the data plates are fully intact! Though it is difficult to take images inside the eyepieces, I have shown approx. What the view looks like in the last images. One of the only ones I have seen of this late style, it is an EXTREMELY rare item, PERFECT for any collection or display! TERMS OF SALE.
