Antique, Collectibles & Bric-A-Brac. The keel of Flying Fish (SS-229) was laid down on 6 December 1940 by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. She was launched 9 July 1941 and sponsored by Mrs. Kimmel, Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet. The boat was commissioned 10 December 1941, Lieutenant Commander Glynn “Donc” Donaho (Class of 1927) in command. SIZE: Approximately 2-3/16″ in height, 7-1/8″ in length and 1-7/8 in diameter. MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated brass with painted lettering. ATTACHMENT: Model screwed into base. CONDITION: 9+ (Very Fine+): The model has some light wear only, with deck gun intact and periscope intact.
