Casey is a retired US Navy Veteran who served aboard submarines in the “USN’s Silent Service”. This particular original painting, done in the 1990’s, is signed by the artist. The painting was done using acrylic paints and depicts a large profile view of the Type VIIC U-Boat, complete with weathering and signal flags, surrounded by 12 U-Boat Emblems and the U-Boat service badge. The back of the canvas is unmarked. The piece was professionally framed in a 2 deep gold brushed metal frame and is ready for hanging. This large framed piece measures approximately 36″ by 18″, and weighs approximately 4.6 pounds without packaging. Additional information regarding the emblems can be obtained from the following two books: Note: these books are in my personal library and are not included in this listing. 1 U-Boat Emblems of World War Two 1939-43 by Georg Hogel, Schiffer, PA, 1999, and. 2 U-Boat Operations of the Second World War , two volumes, by Kenneth Wynn, Caxton Editions, UK, 2003. This painting is a profile of a Type VII C U-Boat, the most widely used U-Boat of WWII, with 703 examples being built by the end of WWII. The 769 ton Type VIIC had a surface speed of 17 knots and a submerged speed of 7.6 knots. The diesel propelled boat with its supplementary electric motors, possessed a range of 9800 miles. Operated by a crew of between 44 to 52 officers and men, the Type VIIC contained 14 torpedoes with four bow tubes and one stern tube. This original one-of-a-kind framed painting on canvas is professionally framed in an attractive brushed metal frame as described above. The painting is in very good condition, having resided in my personal collection for a number of years.
