WW2 USS DREXLER DD 741 Shell LAMP US Navy Destroyer Kamikaze Victim Sunk
Within 6 months the Drexler would be sunk off Okinawa by a Japanese Kamikaze plane. The shell itself is steel which makes me think it was a blank and meant to be presented to some dignitary. Lamp stands 24 tall and was probably fired from 45mm gun. Shell has been mounted to round base made of bakelite or some other composite. Lamp shows much age and steel has turned brown over 50-60% surface; cord is missing the plug and lamp has no shade. Could be cleaned, polished and brought back with a little effort. Still a very rare piece from a Pacific War casualty. Happy to answer questions or provide additional photos.
