German Submarine U-Boat Deutschland Baltimore 1916 Photo CAST IRON Cross Medal
German Submarine U-Boat Deutschland Baltimore 1916 Photo CAST IRON Cross Medal. German Merchant Marine U-Boat Deutschland arrived in Baltimore. The submarine Deutschland arrived in port on July 9th, 1916, with captain Paul Koenig flying the German flag. Of course, with World War I raging in Europe, a number of Americans were suspicious of the vessel pulling into port. British and French diplomats were none too pleased to see the Americans welcome a German submarine. I have a an ORIGINAL 8 X 10 Inch Photo from the event , and first time ever seen the cast iron , Iron Cross paperweight with a medal in center. Iron Cross is 3 X 3 inches , has a medallion in center , looks as if it had originally had a medallion on reverse as well but doesn’t any more. What a Great piece of History!!
