Amazing lot of 7 items, including a few handwritten diaries, regarding the LST 839 on duty in the Pacific nearing the end of World War 2! (I think this was also called the USS Iredell County and there is a write up on it over at the Wiki). Made of a cloth that feels a little like plastic, almost like a cleanable table cloth. This appears to be a newer item, vintage maybe but definitely not World War 2 era. Then we have The LST 839 Story, larger sized soft cover book with a staple binding, by the LST 839 Association, 1982, about 66 pages or so. Also included is The LST 839 Story Supplement 1985 , 25 pages. I believe this is mostly a typed copy of a diary by Bill Zumwalt Flc. And finally, 4 hard cover diary books. First one is titled Five Year Diary, and is about 4×5 ½ inches, the first page starts with January 1, 1945 and runs for about 80 pages handwritten. Then blank pages and it picks up at October 13, 1944 (the year earlier). Titles in this book include Pacific Ocean, Guam, Saipan, Tinian, UCLA, Camp Bradford and more. The other 3 diaries are titles Ensign USNR K F Proctor, Volumes 1, 2 and 3, about 140 pages each or so. Volume 1 is blank and I assume he intended to copy the first diary (Five Year Diary) into this but, hey, hes a young, probably handsome guy in great shape travelling the Pacific and I bet he found much better things to do! Volume 2 begins on April 12, 1945 and is almost full up with writing and covers Okinawa and VJ Day and has a couple pages with some coloring in them including a hand drawn map page! Volume 3 has about 24 pages of handwriting. Skimming through my impression is that this is an interesting view of the Pacific War but not a lot of action like it probably was for most of the navy men serving then and there. Yet this is an amazing, historic lot! I suggest you take a good look at the photos provided and also at this ships iki page to get a better idea of what might be covered in here. Wear and blemishes as expected for these ages. The poster has some minor and light blemishes and light wrinkling, the printed items shows minor wear with more to edges, minor blemishes. The diaries have moderate or more wear with blemishes and extra wear to edges, the Five Year diary has a very weak binding. Very slight storage scent, not bad.
