I have yet to see another full collection. I have gone to maritime museums and maritime art galleries and no one that I spoke to has seen a full collection, nevertheless with all the paperwork. I have only seen single prints or small lots with several of the prints. These prints/lithographs were done with artist Charles Lundgren. I have seen some of his original maritime paintings go for well over a thousand dollars and more. This is the full set of Great Fighting Ships of the 50 States. All 50 are here along with what to seems most of the original paperwork. Even many of the receipts are included in the paperwork. The original booklet is also included as well as several welcome letters from the company. Inside the book, the first page is an information page about Charles Lundgren. The next page is information about the prints and explains how these are reproductions of his original masterworks. These were limited edition to only 1,000 sets. It is dated 1987. So these are over 30 years old. It appears the company that did these was named Fleetwood. This book has been stored in a cool dry place and a smoke free home and away from sunlight. Each of the prints appear to be in like new condition. I have never removed them from the protective holders. The binder is comes in, is in very good condition. Do note the front cover binding has started to split. This is the way I bought it. There are also some marks and adhesive on the cover that may come off, but I left it as is. This was part of a large set of prints I bought. This was the featured item in the lot. There are pictures available on website such as the Wind River Studios Website. I can also send more pictures upon request as well. No rush to sell but will listen to all reasonable offers. The kids are taking too much room and I need to make some space. It will be packaged well and safely. Please ask questions beforehand! I’ll be happy to try to answer any of them! As for a price, I have gotten estimates all over the map. I only know this is a rare and unique item and not many survived. I can only go by the fact that I have never seen another one as a full set with paperwork, yet even a full set with the binder. For the right collector, this is a gem. But the real value is in the entire complete collection, plus the paperwork. You could keep these as is, or take them out and frame each one. Either way, these are beautiful pieces of art. It is the evocation of salt and tar, wind and sail, the light, the movement of water… The affinity of man and sea. As an experienced yachtsman, historian of the sea, as well as an acclaimed marine artist, Charles Lundgren captured this complex harmony in his paintings. Looking every bit the part of the ancient mariner, himself, Lundgren’s love and respect for deep water was reflected in every painting. Combined with his consummate skill as an artist, this resulted in marine painting at its finest. Study at the New York School of Fine and Applied Art (Parsons), the Paris School of Fine and Applied Art, as well as schools in Germany and Italy, plus extensive travel throughout Europe and Africa enabled Lundgren to develop his talents and perfect his technique. One art critic praised him with these words: He is, in my eyes, much more than a painter of the sea. He is a believer in it. A historian of the days when men reached new continents by sail and stars alone. ” Lundgren’s painting skills were sought by individuals — he often painted “portraits of the boats and ships owned by the rich and the famous — as well as museums and companies. Not suprisingly, his works were acquired for such collections of Huntington Hartford, J. Eisenhower, John Wayne, Pegeen Fitzgerald, Cornelius Walsh, George Jensen and Eric Sloane.
