This is a high quality 1:400 scale model of a Russian nuclear submarine made by the masters of Severodvinsk which is the same shipyard where the Russian project 941 “Typhoon” submarines were built. The 941 project was in reaction to the US Trident Submarines. The Russians built a total of 6 Typhoons. They were the subject of the book and movie “The Hunt for Red October”. The Typhoon carried 20 ballistic missiles. It also carried 12 torpedoes. It’s surface speed was 16 knots but submerged could go at 27 knots. Carried a crew of 150, could stay submerged for 120 days at a working depth of 380 meters. Maximum depth of 500 meters. This model has many fine details although some of the details classified by the Russians had to be omitted. It comes in an acrylic plastic case with wooden base. These models were presented to dignitaries and high echelon government officials as an acknowledgement of their work for the promotion of this project. There is a slight (less than 1/4) crack in the acrylic case on the stern end. Unless you are looking for it it isn’t really noticeable.
