This was used at airfields, on-board various surface vessels Submarines, Destroyers, Battleships, Carriers, etc. , as well as weather stations! A barometer is a scientific instrument used in meteorology to measure atmospheric pressure. Pressure tendency can forecast short term changes in the weather. Numerous measurements of air pressure are used within surface weather analysis to help find surface troughs, high pressure systems and frontal boundaries. Made of bakelite, brass, and aluminum, this piece is of early-war (1942) manufacture. Though it has some marks, scratches, and wear due to the age, it still retains 95% of its original finish! All data information is printed on the dial, indicating type, manufacture, and production number. I ahev shown similar barometers on-board a submarine in the last photos.
