Offered: Vintage 1944-45 photo album containing 45 glossy 5″x4″ photos collected by a Chief Warrant Officer aboard the WWII battleship USS New Mexico in the Pacific War. The photos are attached to black album paper by corner stickers with hand entered notations in white ink. A mimeograph sheet lists all 45 photos. Album and photographs are in very good condition, none are loose. The USS New Mexico was in the thick of the fighting against the Japanese. In late 1944, in the Philippines, she was struck by a Kamikaze on the bridge killing the CO Captain Robert Fleming and 29 others including a British General and a Time Magazine correspondent and wounding 87 of the crew. A few months later she was again struck by a Kamikaze killing 54 and wounding 119. The USS New Mexico was in Tokyo Bay at the Japanese Surrender 2 September 1945. The album measures 12 1/2″ x 9″ and is in very good condition. No photos are loose, and there are 2 photos per page. Please see my other listings.
