Very rare – can not find another like it. This is a 7 desk model display of a WWII Navy Mark Torpedo. It is well built and heavy. Made of stainless steel with copper supports on a wood base. Torpedo is clearly filled with something making it heavy like a paperweight. Model is slightly longer than a dollar bill but weights 1 lb. The torpedo is 7″ long and the base is 7-1/2″ long. The plaque says “Naval Firepower” and “Museum of Science and Industry – October 25, 1949″. Possibly this was commemorating some event at the Museum, however, I have not figured out what event that was. Found at an estate sale. Perhaps they had just opened a torpedo or “Naval Firepower” display at the Chicago museum?? Whatever the event, the model is very well made, solid, quality, with even the blades turning if you keep the end screw on the torpedo somewhat loose.
