This is a model of the American Heavy Cruiser of World War Two, the USS PENSACOLA (CA-24). Originally designated CL-24, she was reclassified as a Heavy Cruiser CA-24 in 1931. This class served in the Pacific theater during the World War Two and both survived. After the war, PENSACOLA was used for the Atom Bomb tests at Bikini Atoll, and the hulk was sunk as a target after post-bomb tests were completed. This model is of PENSACOLA circa 1940. She was 585 feet long, 65 feet wide and of 9,100 tons displacement, and was capable of speeds up to 32.5 knots. PENSACOLA was originally armed with ten 8 guns and eight 5/25 guns. Their AA armament was increased with 20mm and 40mm guns during the war. PENSACOLA had a crew of 1,200 seamen and officers. This model was made by renowned model firm NEPTUN owned by Rudi Kraus of Germany, who also makes the fine NAVIS and COPY line of shipmodels. This model is in 1/1250 scale and is approximately 6 long. This is a waterline hull version and comes painted. These are highly detailed scale models made for the Adult collector. THESE ARE NOT FOR CHILDREN. This model is in very good condition. I may have made an effort to improve the condition of the model by straightening masts and guns and touch up small chips. These models do not have the original box and packing.
