Circa 1930’s Albert Cook Church Photographic Portrait of The USS Constitution. Welcome to Auntie Q’s. Auntie Q’s specializes in estates and items that are fresh to the market! Circa 1930’s Albert Cook Church Photographic Portrait of Old Ironsides, USS Constitution! Growing up in New Bedford, Massachusetts he started concentrating on photographing whalers and Whaling, documentation the final days of New Bedford’s most important industry. Church ended up photographing many of the significant vessels including schooner races and schooner construction. This approximate 13½” x 10¾” Albert Cook Church photographic is a wonderful portrait of the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) at anchor. Presumably it is from the time of its tour in the 1930’s after its restoration which was started in 1925. A frigate of the United States Navy, The Constitution is the word’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat. Originally launched in 1797, she was one of six frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794. Designed to be the young Navy’s capital ships, the frigates were larger and more heavily armed and built than the standard frigates of the period. Her service during the War of 1812 earned her the nickname “Old Ironsides” and overwhelming adoration of the public which has repeatedly saved her from scrapping. In 1934 (the time of this picture) she completed a three year, 90 port tour of the nation. The picture deserves to be framed and hung in tribute to this wonderful piece of United States History, memorialized by a renown photographer.
