USS Washington (SSN-787) is a Virginia-class nuclear powered attack submarine of the United States Navy. The contract to build her was awarded to Huntington Ingalls Industries in partnership with the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics in Newport News, Virginia, on 22 December 2008. This boat is the fourth of the Block III submarines which will feature a revised bow, including some technology from Ohio-class SSGNs. Construction began on 2 September 2011 at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia. On 13 April 2012, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, announced SSN-787 would be named after the State of Washington, which was celebrated during a naming ceremony in Seattle on 7 February 2013. The Navy christened Washington on 5 March 2016, during a ceremony at Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia. Crest The crest contains images including Mount Rainier, the Seattle skyline, evergreen trees, and silhouettes of the previous two USS Washingtons. Great vintage plaque that is over 50 years old. Wood plaque measures approx 10″x8″. Brass emblem is 5 round. There are some scratches and scrapes to the wood which I believe could be repaired or replaced. The dark overlay on the former owners retirement plate is starting to flake off. The brass emblem is in good shape with some minor scratches. I have attempted to show the overall condition olin photos. Please ask any questions you have.

NAVAL ACTIVITIES OF THE THIRTEENTH 13. NAVAL DISTRICT, published by District Public Works Office, Seattle Washington, a large about 12 x 14 ½ inches! Plastic/vinyl like soft cover folder containing numerous, original photographs and information. I dont see a date (though I havent read it all). One page mentions 1959, but the note looks added to the original text. By the looks of it, and Im going to give a wide range here, I would say it dates between the early 1950s and mid 1960s with a probable date of circa late 1950s. Most photos look to have been taken from an airplane. There is text for 36 hand-numbered pages and 35 photos (one photo is gone and lost but the text remains). The photos are back to back, separated by paper sheets and taped to those sheets, and within clear protective sleeves. Info in here includes lots of info on Puget Sound, Naval Station Tongue Point Astoria Oregon, Naval Radio Station Jim Creek, Indian Island Annex, Naval Torpedo Station Keyport Washington, Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Training Centers, Magazine area seaplane base and much more. States covered are Washington, Oregon, Montana and Idaho. I believe the 13. Was incorporated into other areas around 1980. This is an important, historical record, photos freezing it in time. As noted, one photo appears to be missing. Expected wear to pages, not bad at all (this has been well cared for). Minor cover wear with a few small scuffs. A little extra wear to the spine ends.
