The WISCONSIN was of the IOWA class of four vessels. WISCONSIN was completed in 1944. WISCONSIN received 6 battle stars for her service. After the war, WISCONSIN was decommissioned in 1948 re-commissioned in 1951 for Korea, decommissioned again in 1958, re-commissioned again in 1988 for Operation Desert Storm, with a final decommissioning in 1991. WISCONSIN was removed from the Naval Register in 2006, and donated in 2009 to the National Maritime center in Norfolk, Virginia, where she resides today. This model is of WISCONSIN circa 1945. She was 887feet long, 108 feet wide and of 52,000 tons displacement, and was capable of speeds up to 30 knots. WISCONSIN was originally armed with nine 16 guns and twenty 5 guns. Their AA armament was increased with 20mm and 40mm guns during the war. She carried three aircraft on two catapults. WISCONSIN had a crew of 1,921 seamen and officers. This model was made by renowned model firm NEPTUN owned by Rudi Kraus of Germany, who also makes the fine NAVIS and COPY line of shipmodels. This is a model of the American Escort Carrier of World War Two, the USS SANGAMON (CVE-26). The SANGAMON was originally laid down as one of twelve CIMARRON class Oilers, commissioned in 1939 and operated by the Standard Oil Company as the ESSO TRENTON. Commissioned into the Navy in 1940, she was renamed SANGAMON, and served as an oiler in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In 1942, SANGAMON was taken on hand for conversion to an Auxiliary (Escort) Carrier with three of her sisters. The SANGAMON class saw a lot of service in the Pacific War, providing aircraft for invasions and resupplying other carriers. As ships of this classed retained their oil tanks, they were also used to refuel other warships. SANGAMON and her sisters participated in the Philippine Island battles. SANGAMON was struck by a Kamikaze aircraft in 1945, but survived. After the War, SANGAMON reverted to her civilian status, and served several owners until she was scrapped in 1960. This model is of SANGAMON circa 1944. She was 553 feet long, 114 feet wide and of 11,400 tons displacement, and was capable of speeds up to 18 knots. SANGAMON was originally armed with two 5 guns and twenty-five aircraft. Their AA armament was increased with 20mm and 40mm guns during the war. SANGAMON had a crew of 830 seamen and officers. This model was made by renowned model firm NEPTUN owned by Rudi Kraus of Germany, who also makes the fine NAVIS and COPY line of shipmodels. The BENSON class was the last Prewar destroyer class and built from 1939 to 1943. This was a class of thirty Destroyers which served in all theaters. Three were sunk in action during the war, two at Guadalcanal, and one in the Mediterranean. Most were retained after the war, or loaned to friendly countries. Most were sunk as targets or scrapped during the late 1960s and early 1970s. This model is of BENSON circa 1943. She was 348 feet long, 36 feet wide and of 1.620 tons displacement, and was capable of speeds up to 37.5 knots. BENSON was armed with five 5/38 guns and ten- 21 torpedo tubes and two depth charge racks. Their AA armament was increased with 20mm and 40mm guns. BENSON had a crew of 208 seamen and officers. This model was made by renowned model firm NEPTUN owned by Rudi Kraus, who also makes the fine NAVIS and COPY line of shipmodels in Germany.
