Original historic photographic print mounted on cabinet card of U. Georgia (BB-15) battleship in drydock at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard on June 9, 1907. There are some really amazing details in this photo, including three workmen sitting or standing on the port screw. The armor belt at the waterline is clearly visible, as are other details of the hull and rigging. Built at the Bath Iron Works in Maine, the U. Georgia was launched in October 1904 and commissioned in September 1906. This photo was taken prior to a major training accident in July 1907 that claimed the lives of ten officers and men in the aft 8-inch gun turret. The Georgia later had her heavy pole masts replaced with cage masts. This is a real, original photographic print and not a recent reproduction. Image is about 9-5/8″ wide by 7-1/2″ tall, mounted and matted on a cabinet card 12-5/8″ wide by 10-3/4″ tall. Condition: cabinet card is in fair condition and photo is in good condition. There are some surface blemishes, scratches, and small holes on the photo but they do little to detract from the drama of this particular view. Has three notes to a sheet. Printed by the American Bank Note Co. Watermark on the paper is of the Crane Co. The Crane company that prints paper for U. Currency researched this item for me and says it was printed in 1897 or soon after. They even had never seen an uncut sheet!! Most likely used during Spanish-American war!! This could be very well the only uncut sheet in existence. A pink paper with black ink. Has great graphics of a sailor with U. Measures 13″ X 14″. This a must for any military collector, maritime collector, or bank note collector. Thanks; the paper is Crane’s Bond, No. 51 which, I believe, means it weighs 51 pounds per ream. A good solid text-weight paper. And the watermark is 1897, so the document would have been printed sometime after that; most likely in that year or very close to it. A really nice document.
