Authorized to be completed as an aircraft carrier 1 July 1922, commissioned 14 December 1927. On 7 December 1941, LEXINGTON based at Pearl Harbor, when word of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was recevied, She immediately launched searchplane to hunt for the Japanese fleet. On 7 may 1942 LEXINGTON’S air group sank the Japanese light carrier SHOHO. 8th, LEXINGTON was hit by 2 torpedos and 3 bombs, finaly rolled over on her side and sank.. USS Lexington Saratoga Military Aircraft Carrier Real Photo WW2 Colorized Print

Both of these Carriers looked identical and were built in the 1920’s, with the Lexington sunk after being badly damaged in battle May of 1942, and the Saratoga surviving the war, only to be sunk during atomic bomb testing in July of 1946.. This is a print of a real photo that has been colorized, a very common practice to add realism to B&W photos, back in the day.. The frame is correct for the era and with old wavy glass, suggesting that both are original to the print, however the backing paper is a thick replacement type and not original.. Frame is in great shape, measures 19.5″ X 11.75″ and comes with old hanging wire on it’s rear, also correct for the period.. As always, feel free to message me with any questions you may hav e.
