The shines on the hull is beautiful & historic. The wooden ornaments: wooden lifeboats & bunkers, these masts with fabric sails & stitching. Columbia was chosen to represent the New York Yacht Club in the America’s Cup challenge race of 1899. Designed by Nathan Herreshoff, she played a major role in the evolution of racing yachts. The Columbia was much more than just a fast sloop; she was pure racing machine. In 1899, she accepted the challenge of Sir Thomas Lipton who was determined to retake the cup for Britain. She took on the Shamrock, a long, lean beauty with a fearsome reputation for speed. Under gale conditions, Columbia proved her mettle to win three straight races by huge margins. She repeated her victory against Shamrock II in 1901. Each of our models is a scaled-down replica designed to give an impression of a historically significant vessel. We do not use plastic parts. Vasa or Wasa is a Swedish warship built between 1626 and 1628. Wasa was covered in wooden carvings that told stories about the Swedish royal family, and most importantly the king, Gustav II Adolf. Equipped with 64 cannon guns, the Swedish warship Vasa was among the most formidable sea vessels under the nation’s royal navy. She was heralded as an engineering feat during its construction and was expected to strike fear among the empire’s enemies. Despite being one of the Swedish navy’s biggest achievements and among the most spectacular warships ever built, Vasa sank within twenty minutes of setting sail, on August 10th, 1628.
