Rare Original 1925 US Navy V-1 Submarine Experimental Trial Portsmouth NH. 7 1/2″ x 11″, unframed. Cracked at bottom all the wat across, light spot in sky. S Naval Academy in the class of 1911. As LT he was the first captain of the USS O-10 (SS-71) when she was commissioned on 17 August 1918. As LCDR, he was commanding officer of the submarine S-7 when she was commissioned on 1 July 1920. The USS Barracuda (SS-163) was commissioned on 1 October 1924 and LCDR Picking was her first CO. He was promoted to Captain on 1 July 1939. His RAF bomber transport crashed on the way to London as liaison on subs with the Royal Navy in Sept 1941, three months before Pearl Harbor. 1955 USS ALBACORE AGSS-569 US Navy Experimental Submarine Desk Model. Made of solid metal. This early model variant shows the USS Albacore fitted with the experimental bow planes (in retracted position) as well as experimental fascia on front of sail tower (shown in silver). Model measures 9.5 long and weighs 1 lb. Still in Very Good Used Condition considering age: normal surface wear and some rubbing/scratches to paint. Edge chip on upper-rudder.
