Sextant, WWII Ball Recording 1944. This piece was made in 1944 by the Mergenthaler Linotype Corp out of Brooklyn, NY. The serial #6183 matches the one on the box, the celebration document and on the instrument. It is very rare to have the serial numbers match. The box also contains a transfer letter from the USS Chandeleur AV 10 to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard dated 15 May 1947. This original piece is complete and in excellent condition. Really nice as stated above this item is not in working order at this time but it would be worth the repair since it has so much history, after much research I found this clock was introduced at the NYC Worlds Fair in 1939. The bottom of the clock use to read hand made in India for the Planet, but unfortunately the previous owners removed the label, but I’ve seen picks of identical ones with dated label, this would refer to the brass base, the clock it self is Swiss made, height 11.5” widest width 4”, solid brass stand, Travertal nautical clock and compass.
