President Truman gave my grandfather A. Adams this bell sometime in early 50’s. My grandfather and Truman were friends since he was Mayor of Key West when Truman was POTUS. Specifics are not known. The bell just showed up and my grandad was no fan of the bell. So he gave it to our family. Since then it has been in my family, and now owned by me specifically. We did not know the rich history of USS Dolphin PG24 until the internet made it public knowledge. She was Decommissioned in. Very little is known of what happened to the bell from’22 to the early’50’s. 9 POTUS used it. First radio song sung from deck of Dolphin. FDR served as Sec. Of Navy on board. The history is rich! I have had the bell appraised twice (much higher than my listing price) with the assurance it is genuine and it is legally owned by me. Since WW2, decommissioned bells now become Navy property immediately upon decommission. I would love to donate to a museum but cannot financially do so right now. Notice the similarity in etching. This listing is incredibly rare and historical. WWII veteran, Henry Arends from Clay County, South Dakota (born 1913, died 1983) was gifted at making things with his hands. As you can see from the article, from June 29th, 1980, he enjoyed delighting others with his creations. He brought some of his models and miniatures to the Iroquois Centennial celebration. (Article from the Huron Daily Plainsman). Look closely at the article… Pictured are a few of these miniature farm water pumps! This is an amazing piece. Look closely at all the pictures. Measures about 7 1/2″ long, 5″ wide, 9 tall. He made the pump to actually work! See the underneath where water can move from the drain hole in the vessel, down underneath the wood platform and back up through the pump and out the spigot. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. The label underneath the platform says, Henry & Isabelle Arends DeSmet, SD 57231. The newspaper article is from 1980, Henry passed away three years later. Such an incredible piece.
