C/6 Gun Sight, as ONLY used on the famous 8.8cm S. Used on U-boats and other surface vessels, t. Hese were captured at the end of the war. (Aufsatz-Zielfernrohr mit Schrägeinblick) was a specialized naval gun sight developed for German Kriegsmarine service during the Second World War. Featuring 5x magnification, a 14-degree field of view, and a distinctive angled eyepiece design, these optics provided accurate target acquisition while allowing the gun crew to maintain a practical viewing position during operation. These sights were primarily fitted to the 8.8cm S. C/30 and later 10.5cm S. C/32 naval guns carried aboard German U-boats and surface warships. Manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena, they formed an important component of German naval gunnery systems and remain among the most desirable Kriegsmarine optical instruments encountered today. Made of solid brass and steel, by Carl Zeiss, Jena, this 5x 14° power scope is in EXCELLENT used condition! No dents, cracks, or repairs… And it retains approximately 95% of its original Kriegsmarine gray paint & finish! The optics are EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAR with no noticeable haze, fungus, or spotting! The original reticle remains present and clearly visible. The filter knob is 100% FUNCTIONAL, and allows the use to change between 4 different views – Clear, Grey Filter, Yellow Filter, and Dark Grey Filter (I have shown how some of the filters look in the attached photos). The original data plate is present and indicates. Some slight marks, scratches, and paint chips throughout… Found in France and preserved in outstanding original condition, though it is missing the original rubber eyecup and headpad (easy to replace). I have shown its location in the last photos. When attached to a U-Boat deck gun, it would have to be constantly attached and removed, as it is not pressurized for submerging. An EXCELLENT and highly desirable original Kriegsmarine optical sight associated with the famous 8.8cm naval gun used aboard German U-boats and surface vessels during the Second World War… PERFECT for any collection or display!

HMS Onyx was an Oberon class submarine of the Royal Navy. Design and construction Main article: Oberon-class submarine The Oberon class was a direct follow on of the Porpoise-class, with the same dimensions and external design, but updates to equipment and internal fittings, and a higher grade of steel used for fabrication of the pressure hull. As designed for British service, the Oberon-class submarines were 241 feet (73 m) in length between perpendiculars and 295.2 feet (90.0 m) in length overall, with a beam of 26.5 feet (8.1 m), and a draught of 18 feet (5.5 m). [2] Displacement was 1,610 tons standard, 2,030 tons full load when surfaced, and 2,410 tons full load when submerged. Propulsion machinery consisted of 2 Admiralty Standard Range 16 VMS diesel generators, and two 3,000 shaft horsepower (2,200 kW) electric motors, each driving a 7-foot diameter (2.1 m) 3-bladed propeller at up to 400 rpm. [2] Top speed was 17 knots (31 km/h; 20 mph) when submerged, and 12 knots (22 km/h; 14 mph) on the surface. [2] Eight 21-inch (530 mm) diameter torpedo tubes were fitted (six facing forward, two aft), with a total payload of 24 torpedoes. The boats were fitted with Type 186 and Type 187 sonars, and an I-band surface search radar. [2] The standard complement was 68: 6 officers, 62 sailors. Onyx was laid down by Cammell Laird on 16 November 1964, and launched on 18 August 1966. During the Onyx’s construction there was an explosion which took the life of a shipyard worker and severely wounded communist union leader Barry Williams. [2] The boat was commissioned into the Royal Navy on 20 November 1967. Onyx was ordered after a previous Oberon-class submarine of the same name (laid down by Chatham Dockyard in 1962) was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy as HMCS Ojibwa before launching in February 1964. [2] The submarine’s motto, “Taurus excreta cerebrum vincit, ” is correctly translated as “Bullshit conquers brains”. The first commission of Onyx saw her visit Swansea in South Wales for the investiture of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. She also attended the bicentennial celebrations of the United States of America in 1976. Falklands War Onyx was the only non-nuclear submarine of the Royal Navy to take part in the Falklands War. The diesel submarine went south with a special 5 man diving chamber and fully armed with 10 MK 24, 2 Mk 20 and 11 Mk 8 torpedoes [3] The smaller displacement of Onyx compared to the nuclear submarines made her ideal for landing SBS marines ashore on the islands in shallow waters. [4] During one of these missions, Onyx hit an uncharted pinnacle while submerged at 150 feet (46 m) and suffered minor damage to her bow. [5][6] Other claims are the damage was inflicted by one of two torpedoes dropped by an Argentine Navy S-2E Tracker[7] from ARA Veinticinco de Mayo operating 70 NM off the Argentine coast, which had been lost by its RN SSN tail. The Tracker S-2 twice detected sub-surface and electronic traces and a MAD contact on 5-6 May while searching for the ARA Alférez Sobral which was out of contact after being hit by Sea Skua missiles launched by Lynx helicopters. Contrary to some reports, [8] after the British cancelled Operation Mikado, there was never a plan to use Onyx to land the SAS in order to destroy Argentina’s remaining stockpile of Exocet missiles. Prior to the submarine being damaged the SBS had been embarked to attack a mainland airfield but this operation, too, was cancelled. Sir Galahad had been damaged beyond repair during an Argentine Air Force raid at Fitzroy and Bluff Cove. Decommissioning and preservation attempts. Defence cuts in the UK saw the Royal Navy dispense with its diesel-powered submarines to concentrate on nuclear attack submarines. In 1991, Onyx was decommissioned from the navy. She left Birkenhead on 13 June 2006[10] to form the centrepiece of The Submarine Heritage Centre, a new heritage museum in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, as a celebration to the town’s illustrious submarine-building history. After the submarine museum went into debt she was taken by an unknown liquidation company as a financial asset, to be broken up for scrap. A small party from HMS Exploit gave her a send off recognising her contribution to the Navy and country in the cold war and Falklands conflict. On 30 April 2014 she was sailed from Barrow in tow for the Clyde and berthed at Rosneath amid continued uncertainty as to whether at least part of Onyx might be preserved. [11][12] Onyx was alongside Rosneath Jetty on the Gare Loch, Scotland on 18 July 2014. She was scrapped in Rosneath later that year.

The contract to build her was awarded to the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton, Connecticut, on 11 February 1982 and her keel was laid on 24 September 1984. She was launched on 14 December 1985-sponsored by Mrs. Betty Ann McKee (née Harris), wife of Admiral Kinnaird McKee, Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion -and commissioned on 8 November 1986 with Captain Charles E. Louisville serves as a trial platform for the prototype BQQ-10 ARCI sonars, which incorporate off-the-shelf computer components, allowing easy introduction of modular upgrades. Louisville transited the Panama Canal in January 1987 to make her home base at Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego as a part of Submarine Squadron 11. During her stay at San Diego, Louisville conducted several WestPac deployments. In January and February 1991, as Operation Desert Storm began, Louisville carried out the first war patrol conducted by an American submarine since World War II. The patrol began with a 14,000-mile submerged, high-speed transit across the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean to the Red Sea. Shortly after noon on 19 January, she launched Tomahawk cruise missiles against targets in Iraq, becoming the first submarine to launch Tomahawks in combat. [3] For this war patrol, Louisville was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation. In 2003, Louisville participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom, launching 16 Tomahawk missiles from the Red Sea against targets in Iraq. Her deployment was extended to eight and a half months in support of the campaign. She was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation for her role in the operation. Louisville completed an extensive overhaul in Portsmouth, NH, at the end of 2008. Louisville received Meritorious Unit Commendations for both her 2014-15 and 2016-17 Western Pacific deployments. In 2017, she completed a surge U. Southern Command deployment to participate in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Chile’s submarine force. In so doing, she made history as the first nuclear-powered warship to call at Talcahuano, Chile. Following a final U.
