Of the Soviet Project 23. Battleship in 1/1200 scale. This is a Handmade model of the Project 23 SOVETSKY SOYUZ Class. Soviet Battleship of WW2 vintage built in response to Germanys Battleship program. They were also known as Stalins Republics It was. Planned in the late 1930s to build 15 of them, but by 1940, only four were laid down, and only three of those progressed further due to resource availability. The four started were the SOVETSKY SOYUZ, SOVETSKAYA UKRAINA, SOVETSKAYA ROSSIYA, and SOVETSKAYA BELORUSSIYA. BELORUSSIYA was cancelled in 1940, and the rest suspended during the German Invasion of Russia. UKRAINA was captured at Nikolayev while17% complete, S. ROSSIYA was only 0.97% completed at Nikolayev, while S. SOYUZwas about 21% complete at Leningrad, but some material was re-used in the defenseof that city. Post-war, some thought wasmade of completing SOVETSKY SOYUZ while the others were scrapped by 1947. Even so, the perceived obsolesce of the shipscaused her order to be scrapped by 1948. SOVETSKY SOYUZ was designedto displace 59,150 tons (standard) and to make 28 knots. She was to be 883 long with a 127beam. The class was to carry an armamentof nine 16 cannon, with twelve 6 and twelve 3.9 DP (Dual Purpose AA) guns andfour KOR-2 Flying boats. The model was made by Ron Hughes of England, awell-known maker of 1/1200 scale Custom models, currently retired. This model does not seem to be made of softBalsa wood, but possibly Bass or lime. She has metal wire fixtures. The model is a little over 8 3/4long and is used in excellent condition. There is a sticker on the bottom identifyingher as SOVIETSKIS SOYUS signed with Rons personal Trade Mark a Cyrillic R (reversed)followed by R. She comes with an originalbox, but I dont know of its origin. Themodel will be packed and secured safely for transit to you.
