July 4, 1867 letter (and two additional handwritten copy letters dated March 2 and June 8, 1867) from Francois Martin to Admiral Louis M. Goldsborough concerning the order of two of Martins self-canting anchors for the U. Flagship “Colorado” and S. Martin has made a point of mentioning at the top that he won the Silver Medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition 1867. He lived in England. Goldsborough (1805 – 1877), was a rear admiral in the United States Navy during the Civil War. He held several sea commands during the Civil War, including that of the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron. He was also noted for contributions to nautical scientific research. In June 1865, Goldsborough became the first commander of the European Squadron, formerly the Mediterranean Squadron. CONDITION: Very Good++ with cross-folds.
