USS Monitor Civil War Ironclad US Navy Warship 24 Wooden Ship Model
Original 1862 medium U. Monitor, an ironclad warship during the American Civil War. Details on this US Navy warship model include two on deck detailed metal cannons with wooden carriages, two boat davits with tenders, US & Union Jack flags, smoke & air intake stacks, pilothouse, twin gun turret, hull rivets and many more details.. This USS Monitor ironclad model was specially designed & built by the plank on bulkhead method (joining multiple small pieces of wood like Rosewood, Mahogany, Teak and other exotic tropical wood together on the hull). The model rests on a black solid wood base with a metal nameplate. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish. USS Monitor was the first ironclad warship commissioned by the United States Navy during the American Civil War. She is most famous for her participation in the Battle of Hampton Roads on March 9, 1862, the first-ever battle fought between two ironclads. The Monitor fought the ironclad CSS Virginia (the former frigate USS Merrimack) of the Confederate States Navy. Monitor was innovative in several respects, including the first 360 degree rotating armored gun turret on an operational warship. The hull was completely underwater and was protected by an overhanging armored deck and armored “belt”. Her keel was laid on October 25, 1861, and she was launched 118 days later. The model measures 24.5 long overall from bow to stern. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity. Overall dimensions Dimension L: 24.5 W: 7 H: 10.5 Inches. Meticulously handcraft from high quality western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany 100% hand-built from scratch using plank-on-frame method. Monitor, an ironclad warship, was built in 1862 during the American Civil War by the United States Navy in response to Virginia seceding from the Union. It fought against the C. Virginia in the Battle of Hampton Roads. It is available as a FULLY ASSEMBLED model ready to be proudly display as a piece of history. All items are in stock when they are listed.
